Ealeal Semel // Theatre Director

Ealeal Semel (born 1990) is a rising Israeli theater director and a graduate of the MFA program in Directing at Tel Aviv University’s Department of Theater Arts.
Eeleal’s work frequently explores the political, gender and sexuality, and the status of women. Her productions often grapple with the complex, dystopian reality of contemporary life.
Her debut production of Hanoch Levin’s "Murder" was a collaboration between Tel Aviv University Theater and Tzavta. Featuring a cast of Jewish and Palestinian actors, this bilingual production (Hebrew and Arabic) toured international festivals worldwide.
"Someone like me", (Premeired at 2019 at the Gesher Theater), addresses the mental health struggles of adolescents. It has been running continuously for seven years, drawing thousands of young viewers who return time and again, deeply moved by its message.
Her current work "So Long and Thanks for the Kremshnit" by Tomer Rozman is a dark and moving comedy at Habima National Theater. The play follows Izzy and Vetiki a happily married couple who have been together for five decades. They make a dramatic decision to end their lives together at a predetermined date.
